We’re Different. Here’s Why.

neurofeedback for adhd

Cutting Edge TECHNOLOGY

ANC has been able to incorporate some of the newest technologies currently available in the Neurofeedback field.  This leads to being able to provide extremely effective biofeedback in fewer sessions than traditional Neurofeedback typically requires.  Additionally, traditional Neurofeedback usually uses only 1 or 2 sensor placements on the scalp, and generally only reinforces the brain to make more or less of a particular brainwave frequency.  ANC has been able to incorporate a new type of Neurofeedback, called Z-Score Neurofeedback, where the data from the primary assessment metric is incorporated directly into the Neurofeedback session; and this can be done for up to as many as 19 sensor placement locations.  This is important because it allows for a great deal more comprehensive brain training to occur in less time.

Efficiency in the Intervention = Lower COST

Being able to complete more comprehensive brain training with advanced technology means that more regions of the brain can be provided feedback during a session.  So how does this translate into tangible benefits?  In a word: faster results.  And faster results ultimately mean lower overall treatment costs.

Early research suggests that Z-Score Neurofeedback allows for symptom resolution to be attained in fewer sessions than traditional Neurofeedback.  The typical standard with traditional Neurofeedback is that one has to be prepared for approximately 40 sessions for significant symptom resolution; however, at ANC with the use of Z-Score Neurofeedback, that number is usually closer to 20 sessions or less; although, individual cases vary.

Z-Score Neurofeedback with up to 19-sensors also allows for fewer sessions per week.  While some cases still require sessions at a frequency of 2 times per week, most ANC clients are able to be seen only once per week.  Only having to make one appointment per week not only costs less, but means it is easier to be more consistent with the sessions – and this leads to a higher likelihood of success.  And let’s face it; it’s hard enough to fit everything into the week, so when you only have to come to an appointment once a week you’re more likely to continue with the neurotherapy to completion.  This equates to more gains from your investment.

We don’t fit you into a program – we fit our program around YOU

peoplepic-2You are a unique individual.  Shouldn’t your neurotherapy be unique as well?  At ANC, we customize the neurotherapy services to your individual needs.  This is done through an intake interview to establish your history and then various assessments as may be necessary to adequately evaluate your neurotherapy needs.  The assessments selected vary from person to person and so this means there is no one-size-fits-all “program”.  This might even mean deciding that Neurofeedback is not an appropriate intervention – yes, we are willing to tell you if Neurofeedback might not be appropriate for you.

Another difference is that ANC does not use package pricing for services.  The reason for this is that it is most important that you, as the consumer, truly retain your power of consent.  This means at any time during the process you should always maintain the ability to say “no” and stop the process, without hesitation.  Anytime services are paid for in advance, as in a packaged deal, this can complicate or hinder your freedom with regard to consent; therefore ANC does not offer “packaged pricing”.

Moving away from labels and towards SOLUTIONS

Many clients who come to ANC already have a diagnosis, in fact sometimes many different diagnoses or labels that have been applied to them over the years.   Sometimes, the last thing that a person needs is yet another label to adjust to.  While obtaining a mental health diagnosis is within the scope of practice of ANC, at our clinic we prefer to put less emphasis on what we’re going to call what’s getting in your way to be more focused on what we can DO about it.

Continuity of CARE

Nancy Wigton, Ph.D., LPC, remains personally involved in all levels of service at ANC; from the initial phone call, to the intake interview, to the QEEG (brain map) data collection and initial assessments, to the QEEG analysis and case review, to protocol development, through the actual Neurofeedback sessions This means your QEEG data is processed in house by the same person who recorded the data, and the Neurofeedback session is conducted by the same person who conducted the intake interview.  This means the person in house with the highest level of expertise is always working on all aspects of your case, during the entire process.  This provides for the maximum degree of continuity of care to meet your unique and individualized needs.

Essential CREDENTIALS

Nancy Wigton, Ph.D., LPC, BCN is licensed by the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and is board certified in Neurofeedback (BCN), at the Fellow level, by the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA).  She is additionally certified as a QEEG Diplomate.  However, it’s important to realize the unfortunate reality is that there are providers of Neurofeedback in the Phoenix metro area who are not licensed to provide either behavioral health or health services.   Some do not even have a professional background in any mental health or medical field.  In addition to holding a clinical license, a Neurofeedback provider should obtain additional training and supervised experience to be able to hold a certification from BCIA.  For more information about the importance of credentials, and how to verify credentials of providers, click here
